In a world obsessed with material gains, it's easy to overlook the spiritual avenues through which we can earn Rizq (provision) from Allah. While hard work is important, Islam teaches us that true sustenance comes from Allah alone.
To unlock His blessings, we must engage in both spiritual and practical actions. Here are ten proven ways, rooted in Islamic principles, to help increase your Rizq.
1. Aiming for the Hereafter
Focusing your energy on the Hereafter shifts your priorities to what truly matters.
- Ibn Mas’ud رضي الله عنه reported that the Prophet ﷺ said:
“Whoever focuses all his concerns on one issue, the concerns of the Hereafter, Allah will suffice him and spare him the worries of this world.” (Sunan Ibn Mājah 257)
When we align our worries and hopes with the Hereafter, Allah promises to take care of our worldly concerns. This doesn't mean neglecting our daily responsibilities; it means making the Hereafter the focal point of our lives. When you prioritise your relationship with Allah, He blesses your efforts in ways you can't imagine.
- Allah also reassures us in the Qur’an:
“And whatever you spend in charity, He will compensate ʼyouʼ for it.” (Surah Saba: 39)
2. Use Wealth as a Means of Good
Wealth is neither inherently good nor bad; it's how we use it that counts.
- The Prophet ﷺ emphasised this when he said:
“Envy is not justified but in the case of two persons: one who, having been given the Qur'an by Allah, stands by it during the night and day, and a man who, having been given wealth by Allah, gives it during the night and the day.” (Sahih Al-Bukhari 5025)
If Allah has blessed you with wealth, use it in ways that please Him. Share your blessings, support charitable causes, and help those in need. Wealth used for good multiplies in value—both in this life and in the Hereafter.
3. Strive for Excellence (Ihsan)
Putting your heart into everything you do embodies the essence of Ihsan (excellence).
- Allah says in the Qur'an:
“Certainly Allah does not discount the reward of the good-doers.” (Surah Hūd: 115)
- And He reminds us again:
“Is there any reward for goodness except goodness?” (Surah Ar-Rahmān: 60)
When we strive to do our best—whether at work, in relationships, or in worship—Allah notices and rewards our efforts. It's about bringing sincerity and dedication into everything you do.
4. Practice Gratitude
- Gratitude is a powerful catalyst for more blessings. Allah promises:
“If you are grateful, I will certainly give you more.” (Surah Ibrāhīm: 7)
Being grateful for what you have opens the door to even more blessings. Consider keeping a gratitude journal or setting aside a moment each day to reflect on Allah's countless favours. This practice shifts your focus from what you lack to what you possess, cultivating contentment and attracting greater blessings.
5. Value Children as a Blessing
Children are a source of Barakah (blessing).
- Allah assures us:
“Do not kill your children for fear of poverty. We provide for them and for you.” (Surah Al-Isrā: 31)
- And He repeats:
“Do not kill your children for fear of poverty. We provide for you and for them.”(Surah Al-An’ām: 151)
In times of financial strain, it's tempting to worry about the costs of raising a family. However, Allah is the Sustainer. Children often bring unexpected blessings that go beyond material wealth. Raising them with strong Islamic values ensures that your legacy continues in goodness.
6. Cultivate Piety (Taqwa)
Taqwa (piety) isn't just a moral value—it's a means of sustenance.
- Allah says:
“And whoever is mindful of Allah, He will make a way out for them and provide for them from sources they could never imagine.” (Surah At-Talāq: 2-3)
Taqwa doesn't mean being perfect; it means being conscious of Allah in your actions and decisions. The more mindful you are, the more blessings flow into your life.
7. Embrace Contentment
There’s an old saying: “Contentment is the greatest wealth.”
- The Prophet ﷺ captured this wisdom perfectly long before it came into being with just one phrase:
“Be satisfied with what Allah has allotted for you, and you shall be the richest of people.” (Jāmi’ al-Tirmidhī 2305)
When you accept what Allah has written for you, you free yourself from envy and dissatisfaction. This acceptance brings a peace that cannot be bought.
8. Rising Early
- Waking up early isn’t just productive—it’s blessed. The Prophet ﷺ said:
“O Allah bless my Ummah in what they do early [in the day].” (Sunan Abī Dāwūd 2606)
The morning hours are full of Barakah. Starting your day with Fajr prayer and engaging in productive activities sets the tone for a day filled with potential to earn Rizq.
9. Staying Committed to Salah
Salah is the cornerstone of a Muslim’s life.
- Allah says:
“Bid your people to pray and be diligent upon it, We provide for you.” (Surah Tāhā: 132)
Regular prayer is a direct line to the Creator. It nurtures a spiritual connection that brings ease and Rizq, even during challenging times.
10. Migration (Hijrah)
This might seem like an unconventional one, but migration for the sake of Allah holds immense blessings.
- The Qur’an states:
“Whoever emigrates in the cause of Allah will find many safe havens and bountiful resources throughout the earth.” (Surah An-Nisā: 100)
Sometimes, stepping out of your comfort zone—whether physically or metaphorically—opens doors to opportunities you didn't know existed.
